Niki Buchan
With a biomedical background, Niki has lived and worked in South Africa and Scotland, and has been calling Australia home since 2011. She has a great love for the outdoors and has been working with both adults and young children in very consultative, naturalistic and sensorial environments for more than 35 years. She has vast experience working directly with children and educators as an educator, pedagogical leader, head of centres and founder and owner of her own child care and education centres.
She works internationally as a conference keynote speaker, Nature pedagogue, mentor and author and has been invited to work in the UK, USA, Canada, Iceland, Sweden, South Korea, China, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark and South Africa. Niki has developed a reputation as a strong advocate for children’s right to a high-quality childhood with a deep concern about children’s mental health and trauma. She trusts children as being capable and competent and believes children have a right to regular access to nature and to have their voices heard in matters that affect them. She is considered a leading voice in promoting Nature-based practice and is the award winning author of “Children in Wild Nature”, “A Practical Approach to Nature-based Practice” , “Adventurous Play” and co-author of STEM Detectives.
Niki is the mother of four adult children, an adventurer, keen photographer, seldom seen without a camera in her hand and is usually surrounded by children!
Marina Robb
Marina Robb (PGCE; Msc: MA; Bsc; Author) is Founder and Managing Director of Circle of Life Rediscovery CIC and The Outdoor Teacher Ltd, leading organisations that aim to transform education and health through nature.
Her book, ‘Learning with Nature’, forwarded by Chris Packham is considered a must-have book for Forest School & Outdoor practitioners. The Essential Guide to Forest School and Nature Pedagogy (with publication in late 2020/2021) is everything you need to know from theory to practice.
Sarah Watkins
Sarah Watkins is a Reception teacher and Forest School leader who is passionate about the positive impact of outdoor play on children’s wellbeing. Sarah’s memories of an outdoor, play-filled childhood inform her teaching ethos, and, as Head of School, Sarah knew the location of all the best hiding places, as it was the primary school she attended as a child! Before teaching, Sarah worked as an Arts Officer, and also managed projects for a national media charity, giving a platform to unheard voices. Sarah is a Specialist Leader in Education and university tutor who regularly speaks at educational events.
Kimberly Smith Founder of Hygge in the Early Years™️
Kimberly has a passion for child-led nature-based learning and has worked in Early Years Education for the last 17 years as an early years teacher, leader and trainer. She has worked for the local authority in the quality improvement team, guest lectured at Trinity and Leeds Universities and is a regular conference speaker. She is now the founder of KSEY Consultancy, working with tens of thousands of educators around the world, to improve their wellbeing and quality of teaching through the power of 'Hygge in the Early Years!'.
Pia Jones
Pia Jones is an author, creative workshop facilitator and UKCP integrative arts psychotherapist, trained at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, London. At the core of her practice, Pia uses art and story to help children and adults connect with inner resources during times of difficulty, transition and change. Pia is author of the ‘Therapeutic Fairy Tales’ series (published by Routledge), co-creator of the ‘Storybook Manual’, and creator of the ‘Sometimes I Feel’, emotion flash-cards for children. Pia is currently working on a second volume of ‘Therapeutic Fairy Tales’ and a new manual on how creativity, nature and folklore can support wellbeing in children and families. Sarah Pimenta
Sarah Pimenta is an experienced artist, lecturer in creativity and workshop facilitator with children and adults. Her specialist art form is print-making and her work communicates texture, colour and emotion into a variety of educational, health and community environments, in the UK and abroad. Sarah integrates nature into her work, both inside classrooms and outside. Sarah is illustrator of the ‘Therapeutic Fairy Tales’ published by Routledge, and co-creator of the Storybook Manual. She is currently working on illustrating a second volume of ‘Therapeutic Fairy Tales’ and co-creating a new manual on how creativity, nature and folklore can support wellbeing in children and families.
