Kindness and Love: Hooks and Activities
Feb 10, 2020
I just love to bake with children as you can get so much learning into it and then there is the tasty treat at the end. This week why not try this super easy valentines shortbread recipe.
Pre-heat the oven to 150c
Chop the butter into small pieces and rub together with the flour in a mixing bowl until you get small crumbs
Add the sugar to the bowl and mix it together to make a dough
Wrap the dough in clingfilm, and place in the fridge for 30 minutes
Roll out until they are a few centimetres thick and cut out into shapes and place on baking parchment on a baking tray
Bake in the pre-heated oven for 7-10 minutes - keep checking to make sure they don't overcook, all ovens can be different
Once cooked, leave to cool on a wire rack. Then when cooled decorate with icing and sprinkles.
Some other ideas for spreading love and kindness this valentines day;
๐Why not add rose petals to your water tray
๐Set up a flower arranging station (provide scissors, ribbons, gift tags and cards to write in)
๐Create hearts using natural loose parts
๐Make your own heart decorations and suspend in the room on a fallen branch with fairy lights.
๐Set up a perfume station in your outdoor kitchen for children to create their own perfumes
๐Set up a red colour invitation to explore and investigate on a heart shaped wooden board. Take photos of these and turn them into valentines day cards or display.
๐Read the books Guess How Much I Love You, In My Heart: A Book of Feelings and Monday Hearts
