This year i found myself (like so many others!) turning another year older while in a national lockdown. A time usually spent celebrating with loved ones and friends I wondered if i could still enjoy all the lovely hygge moments under the restrictions of the current pandemic. In this weeks blog post I want to share with you exactly how I spent my birthday and how I brought in the hygge magic.
I began my day with a slow breakfast of pastries and coffee while we opened a few presents and cards that had arrived in the post from friends and family. I received some rather lovely hygge related gifts; candles, fluffy socks, salted caramel chocolates (my favourite!) and a very snuggly warm fleece (a perfect present to keep me warm as i'm forever cold).
I decided to have an at home pampering morning and ran the bath, lit the candles and put on my favourite podcast shows. It was very relaxing laying in the bubbles and flower petals of my birthday bath bomb knowing that I could just be present in the moment and didn't need to rush off anywhere or be answering emails.
While I was pampering we took delivery of a gorgeous wreath made by two rather wonderful and thoughtful friends. The evergreens used on the wreath smelt great and as you can see in the photo above it creates a great sense of arrival hung on the door (something I talk about a lot on my training!).
It was a bare November day outside with a little bit of fog and over lunch we decided to wrap up warm and go out for a walk. I always think it's good to get some fresh air each day. We took a flask of hot chocolate and some sandwiches and sat on a rock over looking the moorland.
In the afternoon I lit the candles in my office and decided to do some sewing. One of the gifts I had received was to create some felt decorations to hang on the Christmas tree. I also enjoyed a slice of chocolate cake with my cup of Yorkshire tea. I think my lockdown birthday revolved around food!
The birthday was finished off with even more food...a three course meal containing all my favourite food and enjoyed at home. I played one of my favourite relaxing albums of this year which was Brett Eldridge: Sunday Drive. I do love the music on this album and like that many of the songs are about the ordinary moments being the ones that should matter most of all.
I then ended my birthday with some facetime calls and getting snuggled on the sofa to watch a comedy film. I lit my favourite winter candle and popped the fire on. I'm not going to disclose what the film was as I don't always have the best taste in films!
So there you have it, it might have been a bit quieter than previous years but it was actually a pretty wonderful way to spend turning another year older! Although i'm not sure I will add this year to my age ;)
